Inauguration of Revd Canon Jonathan Triffitt at Bradford Cathedral 01.03.26

BRADFORD, 1st March 2026 – The Bradford Hindu Council (BHC) was proud to participate in a historic occasion for our city as the Revd Canon Jonathan Triffitt was officially installed and licensed as the new Interim Dean of Bradford.

Representing the BHC was Trustee and PRO, Mr. Deepak Sharma, who joined a distinguished gathering of civic and religious leaders to welcome Canon Triffitt back to his home city. The service, held within the Bradford Cathedral, was officiated by the Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth.

A Shared Commitment to Community

The installation marks a new chapter for the Bradford Cathedral, and for the BHC, it represents a continued dedication to the “Good Neighbour” principles that define our district. Canon Triffitt, who grew up in Bradford spoke warmly during the ceremony about his desire to reconnect with the diverse communities that make Bradford unique.

Reflecting on the afternoon, Deepak Sharma noted:

“It was a truly spiritual and uplifting afternoon. Seeing our city’s leaders come together reminds us that while our traditions may differ, our goal of serving the people of Bradford is a shared one. It was a personal honour to welcome Canon Triffitt back home on behalf of the Hindu community.”

Civic Unity in Focus

The service was attended by the highest levels of local civic leadership, providing a wonderful opportunity for the BHC to reaffirm its strong ties with the city’s civic institutions. Following the formal licensing, Mr. Sharma had the pleasure of meeting and sharing time with The Rt Revd Dr Toby Howarth, who led the service with grace and a vision for a unified Diocese. The Lord Mayor of Bradford, Councillor Mohammed Shafiq, whose presence underscored the civic importance of the day. The High Sheriff of West Yorkshire, Christopher John Brown OBE DL, repre

senting the King and the judiciary in the final month of his tenure as well as the new Revd Canon Jonathan Triffitt.

The BHC remains committed to working alongside the Cathedral and our fellow faith groups to ensure Bradford continues to be a city of peace, culture, and mutual respect. We look forward to working closely with Dean Jonathan Triffitt as he begins his three-year term leading the Cathedral’s mission.
