BHC Inaugural Interfaith Cricket Match a Resounding Success

1 min read

On behalf of the Bradford Hindu Council, we extend our heartfelt gratitude and immense pride in the resounding success of our inaugural Interfaith Cricket Match.

This event, a true testament to the spirit of unity and diversity that defines our city, brought together attendees and players on August 18th at Bowling Old Lane.

The evening saw a remarkable gathering of players from the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu faiths, joined by valued members of the local Ukrainian community.

Seeing everyone take to the pitch and stand side-by-side was a powerful and moving experience. In a world often divided by political tensions, this match served as a living example of how different communities can build bridges and come together in peace and solidarity.

One of the attendees shared his experience: “It was an amazing opportunity to connect with people I wouldn’t normally have met outside of work. The atmosphere was incredible, filled with friendly competition and genuine mutual respect.”

The BHC extends our deepest thanks to all the players who participated and all the people who came out to support the event, making it an unforgettable evening. Your presence and sportsmanship were what truly made this a success.

We are also incredibly grateful to our key partners: the Race Equality Network (REN), the Yorkshire County Cricket Club, and the team at Bowling Old Lane Cricket Ground. Their invaluable support and unwavering commitment to our vision were instrumental in bringing this project to fruition.

This first-of-its-kind event truly embodied the ethos of Bradford as a City of Culture, showcasing our community’s incredible spirit of inclusion and shared purpose. We look forward to building on this success and continuing to foster a stronger, more united community for years to come.

The event was hosted by Trustees Deepak Sharma, Ravinder Dharni and Shiv Krishan the sports advisor for the Bradford Hindu Council.
