1 min read

On the 5th of Febuary 2026. The AMEC Committee members were invited to the Bradford Arts Centre by Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture and Creative Lives for a special celebration evening to recognise the amazing work of all the “Do Your Thing award winning groups.”

Our Centre Manager Harkishan Mistry was one of 4 speakers on the evening, and he spoke about the amazing Bhajan Singing competition held in Aug 2025. This was extremely well received by the audience, especially as our oldest Bhajan singer Dayabhai who is 91 years of age was present.

Anand Milan Elderly Centre received £400 from Creatives lives to carry out a Bhajan singing Competition. We had 18 members who took part from the age of 60 to 91. We gave everyone at the centre the opportunity to take part in the competition by holding practice sessions every Monday for a Month prior to the competition.

A packed audience of over one hundred gathered for the final, the three judges were chosen from the community. It was a fantastic event with lots smiles and happy faces.

The total event was a Soul-Stirring Success!

What a beautiful and uplifting day was had at our Anand Milan Elderly Centre during the Bhajan Singing Competition! The atmosphere was filled with devotion, joy, and the purest form of love – music from the heart.

From heartfelt bhajans to soulful hymns, each performance was a reminder that age is no barrier when it comes to expressing faith and spreading light.

A standing ovation to all of our incredible participants – their voices touched everyone present and brought peace, joy and smiles all around.  Every performance carried deep meaning and connection, and we were deeply grateful to witness such talent and spiritual grace within our community.

A big thank you to the organisers and volunteers who made this event possible. The decor, warm meal created a perfect setting for this heart warming celebration.
